Project Description – Carrerabach Monitoring

The Carrerabach project aims to develop and validate an intelligent monitoring and early-warning system for natural hazards affecting the infrastructure of the Rhaetian Railway (RhB) in the Canton of Graubünden, Switzerland.

The project combines autonomous IoT sensors, radar technology, weather stations, and cameras with the AI-powered GeoSenseAI® platform. The system continuously collects water level, flow velocity, weather, and precipitation data, as well as information on potential debris blockages, and processes this information in real time. Through intelligent data analysis, critical developments can be detected at an early stage, providing infrastructure operators with reliable decision support.

The objective of this pilot project is to enhance the operational safety and resilience of railway infrastructure, enable the early detection of flood and debris-flow hazards, and establish the foundation for a scalable monitoring solution that can be deployed at additional high-risk locations throughout Switzerland.
